Cub Scout Pack 680

Alexandria, VA

Rechartering Information 2023

All scouts and units must renew their BSA membership annually.  We require a positive affirmation from each family that you want to continue in scouting.  Packs and troops in the Colonial District must have all re-charter materials completed by October 2023.

Scouts who do not re-register each year will no longer be members of Pack 680 or the Boy Scouts of America.  This means that those boys will be unable to participate in any scouting activities.

Because of the limited time frame we have to complete rechartering, at the beginning of the pack year in August, we will require you to: 1) verify the medical and contact information we have on file and 2) pay the necessary fees discussed below.  Checks are made out to “Pack 680”.

Annual Dues for 2023

Our regular annual fee is $160 per scout. This covers the annual fee with Scouts BSA as well as the National Capital Area Council fee, which is new in 2023.

The Arrow of Light scouts must recharter with the pack but do not pay any additional registration (except for a $1 transfer fee) when bridging over to a Scouts BSA troop.  The gaining troop may charge you for program dues.

No scout is turned away from Pack 680 due to an inability to pay.  Contact the Cubmaster and parents committee chair for more information.

Popcorn fundraising for 2023

The annual registration fee does not cover all of our expenses.  Popcorn revenue covers the substantial shortfall and allows us to have a high quality program (two campouts a year, three derbies, lots of awards, and other activities).  In order to ensure that the Pack is able to meet its budgeted needs we require all Scouts to sell $650 worth of popcorn.

Some parents have said that they would prefer to pay higher dues than spend time selling popcorn, so we offer parents the choice of either committing to sell $650 worth of popcorn or opting-out of selling popcorn by paying a fee of $160. This is separate from the $160 dollars paid to the Council and National programs.

The decision whether to opt-in or opt-out must be made at rechartering because we submit our initial popcorn order over the summer, and we need to know how many boys will be participating before that order is placed.

Some families opted to sell last year but either did not sell any popcorn or did not meet the quota.  As a result, those families will be assessed a pro-rated opt-out fee from the previous year in addition to this year’s fees. This applies the rules fairly for everyone.

Health Forms

Finally, you will need to update your scout’s BSA medical form (parts A and B). If there is no change, you can initial an date the old one at the meeting.  If there are changes, please fill out a new one out and bring it. Click here for the form.  Bears and Webelos going to overnight camp will need to fill out BSA medical form part C with a doctor later in the year.
